Architecture

Four layers, one boundary

Expert modules and workflows prepare and check what the rules decide on. A separate layer verifies every statement before it reaches the report.

Rule layer

01

Rule layer

Explicit, versioned decision rules, written together with lawyers. For each substance it decides: prohibited, restricted, permitted, or needs further analysis. It never guesses.

The rules are applied over a continuously updated knowledge base of EU and national legislation. A restricted verdict comes with the limits and conditions that apply. An item the rules cannot decide is routed to further analysis.

Domain expert modules

02

Domain expert modules

Chemistry (forms, salts, sources), biology (botanicals, novel food), toxicology (limits, contaminants) and nutrition and claims. A module never issues a verdict.

Each module works under a fixed protocol and may answer only from approved, versioned legal and scientific sources and deterministic calculators. Each returns a structured finding with a source reference for every factual statement, never free text.

Agentic workflows

03

Agentic workflows

Workflows run normalisation, the expert modules and the rules for every substance, in parallel. Low confidence or disagreement between modules sends the item to needs further analysis instead of to a verdict.

Ingredient names in any language or nomenclature are mapped to a canonical substance, its chemical form or plant part, dose and unit; missing data is detected.

Verification layer

04

Verification layer

A separate layer checks every statement against its source. It confirms that each citation exists and is in force on the effective date, and rejects anything unsupported. Only verified statements reach the report.

  • Every finding carries a source reference

Reproducibility

Deterministic where it must be, measured where it cannot be

Same input, same rule-set version, same verdict. Scientific judgements are pinned and recorded, so every run can be replayed.

  • What is deterministic

Items decided by rules: same input and same rule-set version give the same verdict.

Items decided by rules. Same input and same rule-set version give the same verdict.

  • What is pinned

Each run records the rule-set, knowledge-base, protocol and model versions it used.

Each run records the rule-set version, the legislation knowledge-base version, and, for every expert module, the protocol version and the model version. A report names the rule-set it was produced with.

  • What is replayed

Every run is logged and can be replayed from its log, step by step.

Every run is logged: the input as uploaded, each tool call, the passages retrieved, and the versions used. A run can be replayed from its log and compared step by step.

Needs further analysis

What leaves the deterministic path

Low confidence, disagreement or an uncovered question goes to a lawyer with its full trace — never resolved by guessing.

What is measured, not promised: Expert-module findings are scientific judgements: measured in a benchmark study, with no accuracy figures until it is complete.Read more

Expert-module findings are produced under fixed protocols with deterministic settings, but they are scientific judgements. Their agreement across repeated runs, and the engine's agreement with lawyers' assessments, are measured in a benchmark study against a lawyer-built ground truth. We publish no accuracy figures until that study is complete.

Reproducibility is why the report can be audited: an inspector, a lawyer or a customer can see which rule decided, which version of the law it used, and what the modules found.

Output

What an output looks like

One product, one market: each row is one substance, its daily dose against the limit, the verdict and the legal basis with its version.

Illustrative example — fictional product, fictional values. Legal references are shown in the format the platform uses; they are not advice on any real product.

Monitoring

Monitoring of regulatory change

A review is only current on the day it is issued. Registered products are therefore re-checked whenever the legislation knowledge base changes.

When a rule changes, you receive:

  • the rule that changed, with the old and the new version and the effective date;
  • the products in your portfolio that are affected, each with its updated verdict;
  • possible substitutions, where the knowledge base contains a permitted alternative.
